Last post shows where I started in my longarm quilting journey, now fast forward a few years... This quilt was pieced by Sharon; Sharon is a great piecer & she typically tells me to do whatever I want-that is music to my ears! I love having the freedom to play with custom quilting. I do offer basic quilting services & edge to edge quilting but custom quilting is where I come alive ☺️ I have learned from those who have come before me to let the quilt blocks tell me what to quilt. So before a quilt is loaded on the frame, I lay it out on a flat surface. This allows me to also see if the quilt is flat & square plus let my eyes see the whole top. That’s when the blocks show me what to quilt...sometimes they are quiet & it takes me some time, sometimes they whisper to me & sometimes they scream 😆 This top was in between a whisper & a scream...I knew I wanted to do something with what popped out to me as flowers but the quilt was for a young man so I needed it to be more masculine than anything...geometric to the rescue! I also wanted a continuous feel to the quilting like there was a background with quilting on top too...I am very happy with how this turned out!
